BALTIMORE, MD - Former Johns Hopkins swimmer Bonnie Schwartz successfully crossed the English Channel last Wednesday, July 13, finishing the 20.5-mile swim on her first attempt. Schwartz, who trains with the Fort Lauderdale Aquatics Masters Swim Team, recorded a time of 13 hours and 28 minutes on the route from Dover, England, to Cap Gris Nez in France.

Schwartz was a member of the Johns Hopkins swimming team in 1997-98 and 1998-99. The Blue Jays won the UAA conference title during her freshman year and finished second in her sophomore season.

Schwartz, 25, put her finance career on hold and moved from New York City to Fort Lauderdale this past year to train full-time with Coach Maryellen Powers and the Aquatics Masters. Her list of long distance swimming accomplishments includes a 28.5-mile solo swim around Manhattan. Schwartz holds multiple Florida Gold Coast LMSC individual records as well as multiple Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Individual and Relay Team Records.
